Pre-1995: The Visionaries

Before founding MDS, Maureen and Stewart Lande built their careers in the burgeoning field of personal computing. At a time when few recognized the potential of computers and the internet, they envisioned how these tools could transform businesses. Despite early challenges, they persevered, helping clients solve their technical needs while the world caught up with their vision.

1995: The Birth of MDS and WBE Certification

Maureen Data Systems (MDS) was officially founded in New York City by Maureen and Stewart Lande. From a small desk in their bedroom, Maureen balanced being a mother of four with her passion for building a company dedicated to solving complex business challenges.
From the start, MDS was certified as a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE). This certification was a testament to Maureen’s leadership and set the foundation for the company’s culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

Late 1990s: Earning Trust Through Dedication

Early in its journey, MDS cemented its reputation as a partner clients could rely on. One notable moment occurred during the holidays when a client urgently needed parts while distributors were unavailable. The MDS team personally sourced parts from local retailers, ensuring uninterrupted operations. Acts like this built long-term client relationships and showcased the company’s unwavering commitment.

Sustainable, Municipal Ops on an Intelligent Data Platform

As the sole water and sewerage provider in Trinidad and Tobago, the Water and Sewerage Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (WASA) has a significant reach and scale. It’s unsurprising that the Authority’s agencies oversees the country’s largest combined water and wastewater utilities. It serves over 92% of the population with pipe borne water through private house connections and standpipes. WASA’s strategic plan is to achieve its vision of being a world-class water and wastewater utility, while building a sustainable future  for all Trinidadians. With that high-level direction, MDS saw the potential for migrating legacy utility asset management processes  and solutions from Oracle and IBM to the Microsoft Intelligent Data Platform (MIDP). Working with the Authority's IT Services team,  MDS has implemented Microsoft 365 and Power Platform solutions using sustainable concepts for a modern, asset management system on Microsoft Azure.

Lifecycle Management for Enterprise Business Intelligence

MDS lead the enterprise effort to both consolidate its reporting and visualization solutions from a legacy on-premises SSRS environment to a cloud-based analytics platform accessible across the organization. It also required uniformity within its departments on how these reporting solutions get implemented and adopted. MDS lead the successful implementation of Power BI Premium and migrated a substantial percentage of legacy reporting solutions to the Power BI cloud service using deployment pipelines. By transforming both its business intelligence approach as well as implementing an application lifecycle management (ALM) process for its reports, MDS modernized PSEG’s legacy system to an extensible, more accessible and highly available analytics and reporting environment.
